About

The young bass-baritone Vincent Berger was born in Munich in 2000. As a member of the Thomanerchor in Leipzig, he received extensive musical training and singing lessons from Thomaskantor Gotthold Schwarz and Dirk Schmidt. He was honoured for his outstanding artistic achievements with the Karl Straube Legat of the St. Thomas Choir Foundation. After completing his bachelor's degree with Dirk Schmidt at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater 'Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy' Leipzig, he is currently pursuing a master's degree with Frans Fiselier at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.  Masterclasses with Lionel Meunier, Ton Koopman, Philipp Herreweghe and Peter Kooij provide important impulses for his work.

Vincent now performs regularly as a soloist in cantatas, oratorios and passions. The musical tradition of the 17th and 18th centuries is at the centre of his musical interests. Based on this, his concert repertoire ranges from Renaissance works to world premieres of many important bass and baritone roles from the Classical, Romantic and 20th centuries.  The (re)discovery and performance of lesser-known works is particularly close to his heart.  He made his opera debut with the Thüringer Symphoniker at the Rudolstadt Theatre as Sarastro in Mozart's "Magic Flute". His interpretation of Dovid in the world premiere of the Yiddish opera "Bas-Sheve" by Henech Kon as part of the 'Yiddish Summer Weimar' with performances by the Thüringer Symphoniker was equally well received.

In addition to his solo activities, he places particular emphasis on ensemble singing. Among others, he works with Vox Luminis, Musica Gloria, Chorwerk Ruhr and his vocal sextet voicemade.

In addition to his musical activities, Vincent studies International Studies at Leiden University. Vincent Berger is a scholarship holder of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
